Breast Reduction in Chicago, IL | Relieve Discomfort
Why do we love it?
Breast reduction is a transformative procedure that offers relief from the physical discomfort and aesthetic concerns associated with overly large breasts. This procedure involves the removal of excess breast tissue and skin, resulting in smaller, more proportionate breasts. Women who experience back, neck, or shoulder pain due to the weight of their breasts, as well as those who face difficulties with physical activities or clothing fit, can benefit significantly from breast reduction surgery.
The process begins with a comprehensive consultation to discuss your goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. During the surgery, Dr. Hill makes incisions to remove excess tissue and reshape the breasts. The nipples may also be repositioned to achieve a natural appearance. The result is a more balanced breast contour that aligns with your body proportions.
Recovery from breast reduction involves some swelling and discomfort, which typically subside within a few weeks. Following post-operative care instructions is crucial to ensure proper healing and optimal results. Most patients can return to their normal activities within a week, though strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.
One of the key advantages of breast reduction is its ability to provide immediate and long-lasting relief from physical discomfort, as well as aesthetic improvements. By reducing the size of the breasts, this procedure can alleviate pain and improve overall body balance, leading to enhanced self-confidence and quality of life. Breast reduction not only enhances physical comfort but also opens up new possibilities for clothing choices and physical activities, further boosting your overall well-being.
Breast reduction combination procedures offer a comprehensive solution for women seeking to address multiple concerns related to their breasts. By combining breast reduction with other procedures such as breast lift or liposuction, this approach can further improve breast shape, position, and overall proportion. Ideal candidates for this procedure may experience physical discomfort, such as back, neck, or shoulder pain, as well as aesthetic concerns related to breast size and shape.

The results of a breast reduction surgery can be long-lasting, but they are not necessarily permanent. Each person's body responds differently to surgery and heals at its own pace. Factors such as genetics, skin elasticity, and the initial size of the breasts can affect how well the results are maintained over time. Significant weight fluctuations can impact the results of a breast reduction. Gaining or losing a substantial amount of weight can cause changes in breast size and shape. Maintaining a stable weight after surgery can help preserve the results. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can have an impact on breast size and shape. Some women who have had breast reduction surgery may choose to have children in the future. It's important to discuss these considerations with your surgeon during the consultation
Breast reduction surgery carries risks similar to those associated with other significant surgical procedures. These risks include potential complications like bleeding, infection, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. Additional possible risks encompass temporary issues such as bruising and scarring. Breastfeeding difficulties or the inability to breastfeed may arise as well. Moreover, there is the potential for variations in the size, shape, and appearance of the left and right breasts following the procedure. Patient satisfaction with the surgical outcomes may not always align with their expectations. In rare cases, there exists the risk of more severe complications, such as the loss of the nipples and surrounding skin, or a decrease in sensation in those areas, although these instances are infrequent
For the best outcomes, it is important to be at or very close to your ideal weight before getting a breast reduction. Being at or near your goal weight before surgery can help ensure that Dr. Hill has a stable and accurate baseline for your body proportions. This allows him to plan the surgery more effectively and achieve more predictable and aesthetically pleasing results. Weight fluctuations can impact breast size and shape. If you have the surgery when you are significantly overweight, there is a risk that additional weight loss may result in further changes to your breast appearance, potentially necessitating revision surgery.
Ultimately, the timing of a breast reduction is a personal decision, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Dr. Hill can assess your unique situation, discuss your goals, and provide guidance based on your individual circumstances. He will help you weigh the pros and cons of having the surgery before or after having children, taking into account factors such as your breast size, physical discomfort, and aesthetic goals. Additionally, he can explain how pregnancy and breastfeeding may impact the results of the procedure and help you make an informed choice that aligns with your needs and desires.
A breast reduction on average takes between 2 and 4 hours. There are of course extenuating circumstances where a procedure would take more or less time depending on the extent of the reduction being performed.
Yes a post-operative garment is required to be worn following a breast reduction. This garment will provide support to the breasts and take pressure off of the incision sites to allow for optimal healing and minimizing scar appearance. The garment will typically be worn 24/7 (with the exception of showering) for 6 weeks.
The anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia to the patient, causing them to temporarily go to sleep for the duration of the procedure. Then Dr. Hill will make an incision around the nipple and areola and down each breast. He will then remove excess breast tissue, fat and skin to reduce the size of each breast. This process re-shapes the breast and resets the nipple and area around it, also known as the areola. The nipple position is often lifted to be higher on the breast, rather than pointing downward.
The scarring after a breast reduction depends on the type of incision Dr. Hill decides to use. During your consultation, Dr. Hill will discuss the technique he feels will be the most effective in getting to the aesthetic goal you desire. There are 2 main types of breast reduction techniques:
-Vertical (lollipop) method: In this approach, Dr. Hill will create two incisions. One encircles your areola, the darker pigmented area around the nipple, while the other extends vertically from the base of your areola down to the crease at the bottom of your breast, resembling a lollipop.
Inverted (anchor) method: For an inverted or anchor breast reduction procedure, your surgeon will make three incisions. The first incision surrounds the border of your areola, the second extends from the base of your areola down to the crease of your breast, and the third runs along the natural crease underneath your breast.
Patients who undergo a breast reduction procedure will want to take some time off of their normal activities. Some patients feel they can return to light duty after 3-4 days. Other patients will want to take a full week off, and slowly re-introduce their daily routine. If you work a job that is less physically demanding, such as a desk job, this time you want to take off may be less. Each patient’s recovery is different. Dr. Hill will be able to give you a good idea of the amount of downtime that you will need to take based on your specific case during your consultation.
You will notice some immediate changes in the appearance and feel of your breasts right after surgery. These changes include a more lifted and reduced breast size. However, your breasts will likely be swollen, bruised, and the incisions will be visible at this stage. Over the next 3-6 months, your breasts will continue to settle and heal. Swelling will subside further, and your scars will gradually fade. By the end of this period, many patients see a significant improvement in the appearance and shape of their breasts. The results of a breast reduction surgery are typically long-lasting, and you can enjoy the benefits of the procedure for many years. However, it's important to remember that breasts may continue to change over time due to factors such as aging, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy.
