Expert Necklift Surgery in Chicago | Achieve a Youthful Neckline
Why do we love it?
A necklift can create a more youthful jawline or under-neck contour by tightening sagging skin and muscles in the neck. This surgery can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, sagging skin, and jowls.
A necklift, also known as lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that targets common signs of aging such as wrinkles, sagging skin, and jowls in the neck area. By tightening the underlying muscles and removing excess skin, a necklift can rejuvenate the appearance of the neck, creating a smoother, firmer contour. Whether you're bothered by turkey neck, loose skin, or vertical bands, a necklift can provide dramatic results that enhance your overall facial profile and restore confidence in your appearance.
A necklift, versus products and other non-surgical treatments, offers more comprehensive and enduring rejuvenation by addressing the underlying causes of neck aging. With proper care and maintenance, the results of a necklift can last for many years, allowing you to enjoy a smoother, firmer, and more youthful neck contour well into the future.

Generally, a neck lift can provide results that last for 10 years before aging and gravity start to visibly return, and it's essential to understand that a necklift does not stop the natural aging process altogether. The longevity of the results from a neck lift procedure can vary from person to person and depends on several factors, including your individual anatomy, lifestyle, and the specific techniques used during the surgery.
Neck lifts are typically considered by individuals who are experiencing sagging or loose skin in the neck and jawline area, which can be caused by aging, weight loss, or genetics.
There is no specific age requirement for getting a neck lift, but candidates for neck lift surgery typically have excess skin due to either weightloss or aging, and therefore can be anywhere from their 20s to their 70s or older. However, some people may develop neck concerns earlier due to genetic predisposition or other factors.
If you have sagging or loose skin around your neck, and/or excess fat depositing beneath your chin or along your neck, you may be a good candidate for a necklift. Platysma muscle laxity, the muscle that is under the neck, is also a good indication for this surgery!
6-8 weeks
A neck lift can significantly improve the contour of your neck. It can address issues like sagging skin, excess fat, and muscle laxity. This can result in a smoother, more defined neck and jawline. Overall, a successful neck lift can make you appear more youthful and rejuvenated. It can take years off your appearance, but it's important to have realistic expectations. A neck lift won't make you look like a completely different person, and the degree of improvement can vary.
As with all surgical procedures, there are risks associated with a necklift. Common risks of a neck lift include infection at the surgical site, scarring, and temporary numbness.
During the initial post-operative period, you should avoid strenuous physical activity. Going on light walks is acceptable and encouraged. You should wait at least two to four weeks before re-introducing moderate physical activity such as power walking. After 6-8 weeks, you can resume strenuous exercise like high-intensity interval training (HIIT), heavy lifting, or activities that involve significant neck movement. Be cautious with activities that involve bending, twisting, or straining your neck muscles for the first 2-4 weeks. Avoid exposing them to excessive sun, sweat, or moisture during the early stages of healing.
Incisions are made in discreet locations to minimize visible scarring. Common incision sites include behind the ears and sometimes beneath the chin. Immediately after surgery, you can expect some redness, swelling, and perhaps bruising around the incision sites. Scars will initially appear pink or reddish and may feel firm. Over the following weeks and months, scars will gradually fade and become less noticeable. Scars go through a maturation process that can take up to a year or more. During this time, scars may appear raised or uneven. This is a normal part of the healing process. Eventually, scars tend to flatten out and become less noticeable.
Dr.Hill will provide specific post-operative instructions for scar care. This may include keeping the incisions clean, using ointments or silicone products to promote healing, and avoiding sun exposure on the scars to prevent them from darkening. At your one-month follow-up, Dr. Hill will evaluate the scarring and see if a laser treatment is appropriate to expedite the healing process.
